Are Ming Pearls expensive and is Ming Pearl Jewellery affordable? We believe that Ming Pearls, also known as Edison Pearls, are a very affordable way to create jewellery featuring very large pearls.
The cost of round Cultured Pearls increases exponentially as the size of the pearl increases, the reason for this is scarcity. A pearl increases in size over time, as layers of nacre are added to the irritant the oyster, or fresh water mussel, is seeking to coat. If you are seeking saltwater pearls you will find very few large perfectly round pearls, and if you are culturing pearls it will take years longer to create a large pearl and as size increases the chances of it being perfectly round and without surface imperfections decrease dramatically, again driving scarcity and cost.
The reason a large Ming Pearl is more affordable is down to the culturing process, rather than implanting a grain of sand into the oyster or mussel, a small bead is inserted and thus the starting point is a perfectly round sphere and the layers of nacre added are likely to maintain this perfectly round shape, and start from a large point, all of which increases success rate for creating a large perfectly round pearl and hence decreases cost.
As with any large pearl you will find more pearls with surface imperfections and those without, however on Ming Pearls we find those imperfections form a more natural organic surface which some favour, particularly when combined with the silvery lustre we also often see on Ming Pearls.
The main use we have seen for Ming Pearls is in creating beautiful Ming Pearl Necklaces, and with pearls that are 15mm in size, these stunning Pearl Necklaces fit perfectly with the current fashion trend for large bead necklaces. But are they affordable? Currently we sell two Ming Pearl Necklaces on our Pearl Jewellery Online website. We have a stunning Pearl Necklace withlarge 14mm White Ming Pearls finished with a stylish 9k gold clasp on offer at just £299.95, which is amazing value for a Pearl Necklace with pearls this large. We also have a beautiful Ming Pearl Necklace with near round 15mm silvery Ming Pearls finished with an elegant sterling silver filigree clasp on offer at a remarkable £199.95.
The process for creating Ming Pearls is still a relatively new process, but as more people learn about Ming Pearls and the amazing value these stunning pieces of Pearl Jewellery provide, we expect their popularity to increase.
